How BASICS are dispatched by the Emergency Operations Centre

SCAS's Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has a directive detailing when BASICS clinicians should be deployed to assist with an incident.

RTCs:

  • High speed / Head on / Motorbike
  • Trapped Patients
  • Associated Fatality
  • Ejected patients
  • Roll Over
  • Train / Railway incidents
  • Multiple Patients
  • Airport full alert

Trauma:

  • Falls > 10-20ft
  • Burns >18%
  • Penetrating injury to head / chest / abdomen
  • Crushed / Blunt trauma
  • Limb paralysis or Amputation
  • Industrial Accidents
  • Head injury with reduced level of consciousness
  • Traumatic Cardiac Arrest
  • Suspension trauma
  • Crew request
  • Near drowning
  • Paediatric major trauma
  • Paediatric Cardiac arrest
  • Advanced airway management
  • Multiple Fitting patients
  • Major Incident and Hazmat

When an incident is identified by the EOC call handlers and dispatchers, a group wide SMS is sent to inform BASICS responders of the incident location, with a following message detailing the type or nature of the incident. The nearest available responder will then make their way to the scene to assist any crews in attendance or mobile to scene.

Whilst en route, clinicians respond with blue lights and sirens in unmarked vehicles, with clinicians providing situation reports to BASICS via EOC.
